Default Best Martin for the money against seagull folk (neck nut)

I would try to play a Martin D-15S, an all mahogany, 12-fret
dreadnought. Very nice sound, 1-3/4 in nut on the twelve fret neck.

Check out a Taylor 412 ce or plain 412. About $950 / $700.00 used

The best Martin for the money is the D-18.

Default Best Martin for the money against seagull folk (think time)

Pman--Try out a Martin. I saw that Elderly Music had some awesome
prices on a D-17, I think. Otherwise, look at the DCM or even the DR.
However, I found that the DR's I played varied in sound. But, you
can't beat the warranty, in my opinion, on a Martin. I bought a used
DCM and I can't believe what a nice guitar it is. It amazes me all the
time. Also, the lower price Taylors are nice.

It was but you snipped it.

Well, sure. Not all instruments are created equal. Take any particular
model mentioned in this list and we can find someone who was unhappy
with it. That's why we try before we buy. The D-18 is a standard
series, guitar-of-a-lifetime Martin for under $1,400, street. Find one
that is not a dog (most aren't) and if someone asks for opinions about
the "Best Martin for the money...[a] tight sounding dreadnaught would be
ideal me thinks..", the answer from me is the D-18.

I agree, Jerry. Of course there are dogs among the Martin
D-18's, but, on the whole, there are some splendid instruments,
too. My 1957 D-18 was my lifetime guitar until someone decided
he needed it more that I did (along with my TV, my stereo, my
30-30, my side-by-side 12 ga., many of my clothes,etc.)

Is the D-18 really a comparable model (features, price, etc.) to a Seagull
guitar?

Default Best Martin for the money against seagull folk (may love solo)

Okay ignore my anti-Martin rant. The key point of my response was:
"It is impossible to generalize on such a statement. First the intended
function needs to be defined. Then the price range."

The point being a D-anything may not be right for some applications, be it a
D-18 or a D-45. When I do solo fingerstyle I want an OM with a highly
responsive top. This is a totally different guitar than a D-whatever.

I have a Collings D-1 that I love, and that replaced a succession of Martin
D's. It is a great guitar, but it is not my guitar of choice for many types of
music. That was my first point.

if you're looking for a fingerpicker, you cannot beat the Martin 000-15s
(IMO)
for the $$.

great fit and finish and incredible 12-fret tone-- smells great too !!

this guitar is great for just about any type of music- I play mostly
fingerstyle
blues, but also do a lot of DADGAD w/ it.

btw, there's a couple on tunes on the RMMGA disk that are played w/ a
000-15s.

good luck.
