Just got a Bass V-Amp - hmmmm (think)
Well, it's not a Pod but it's a third the price AND I got a further 20%
knocked off recommended retail. I haven't delved fully into it but the
initial impression I get is that it's good bang-for-the-buck as long as you
adjust your expectations accordingly.
I like a number of the on-board patches, and it has the usual array of
useless science-fiction noises that impress the kids in the shops, but
I like the idea of having the tone and volume knobs right there in front of
me, but I think the actual cut/boost ranges could have been increased
(although I guess they're true to the rigs being modelled - I dunno, I
don't own any of those amps).
It's a little bit niggly to program - one BIG gripe I have is that while you
can change amp models with a turn of a knob, to change cabinet models you
have to go into edit mode. Also some parameters have to be adjusted by
holding down a button and turning a knob - I realise it would mean more
knobs on the front but I much prefer to be able to pluck the bass with one
hand while adjusting a parameter rather than going back and forth.
I suspect that as I get into programming my own patches I'll like it more
and more. Overall at the moment I'm happy with what I got for the bucks.
It's not stunningly jaw-dropping but I think it'll do the job and it's
certainly not a total dog.
I'll comment more when I've used it on some gigs and recording.
