The Pentax K1000 is the canonical inexpensive high quality full manual SLR. You can almost never go wrong with Nikon. CAnon makes great stuff too, though they did change their mount when they went to auto focus. Nikon and Pentax did not--so you'll find more full manual lenses still running around out there for Nikon and Pentax potentially. Get a 50mm f/1.7 lens for it, and avoid zooms, and you'll have wonderful picture quality and be able to shoot a world of things with available light only. Your monster telephoto lens will cost more than the camera....but that's okay--it's normal. :-) Every camera tends to have its own lens mount, and manufacturers make more lenses for some makers than others. For instance, I migrated away from the Pentax line when I had trouble getting big f/2.8 lenses for teh Pentax 35mm AF mount. Sigma seemed to make everything for Nikon and EOS AF mounts. Good luck--the possibilities are limitless. -- /"\ ASCII Ribbon Campaign | Todd H \ / | http://www.toddh.net/ X Promoting good netiquette | http://triplethreatband.com/ / \ http://www.toddh.net/netiquette/ | "4 lines suffice." |

Thanks, all - I think I've made a decision but will know more when my
snipe hits this afternoon. If things don't work out the way I think they should I've still got four or five options on eBay that are attractive as hell - I'll let y'all know what I ended up with. The FM2 I was looking at got priced out of my range as expected - what I'm looking at is the starter kit from hell, I guess - I have a friend who's a professional photographer who swears by the Konica FS-1 but most everyone else is telling me Nikon FM2. Anyway, here's what I'm looking at - http://tinyurl.com/gmoa I also have a Canon AE-1 Program and a couple of Nikon FMs in the watch list also. More opinions are welcome - I'm not completely sure I'm gonna be able to pull off what I'm trying to. My snipe is a tad over $100 so it might work or somebody else might win. You can never tell with eBay Thanks again - -- posted via the bass forum at http://pointbeing.com |

One place to buy that I trust implicitly and recommend highly is B&H Photo,
go to www.bhphoto.com and scan their site -- they deal in a lot of used equipment and always have some good deals. Be sure to request one of their printed catalogs, because if you get on their mailing list, in addition to getting the regular seasonal catalogs, every year you'll get their giant catalog, which has absolutely everything. |

Seconded. I've got an OM-1n and an OM-2 and they're great cameras. The
OM-2 has both auto exposure and manual exposure modes. Highly recommended. In article <KyBPa.512$Sf1.432@fe02.atl2.webusenet.com>, dgbtfs@bellsouth.net says... |
