He's right chaps, Tony's guitars and basses are much sought after,
especially since his death a while ago. Very nice instruments indeed.

One could always try their luck shopping at
http://www.rumbleseatmusic.com/basses.html and check out the pix for the
following description: " Very Rare and Very Collectible Zemaitis Bass! Since
Tony Zemaitis' recent passing, these instruments have risen in value and
have become extremely hard to find, This one is 100% Original with
Documentation and Paperwork! Beautiful engraved metal front handmade by
Danny O'Brien. It features a Japanese Geisha Girl and a Flower Motif, short
scale, single split pickup, this is a complete package and has every thing
you would need for a collection "

I'm not E-mailing for a quote any time soon either so have at it.

Hell, you could buy a nice Alembic or 4 for that kind of dough.

Default Another $18,000 bass on ebay (guitarist night)

Dude sezzed:

Tom Petty was on the new PBS "Soundstage" last night, and his lead guitarist
was using one on nearly every song.

Default Another $18,000 bass on ebay (neck nut so strings)

Yes and no. It has a built-in back bow to the neck so I can't get it setup with
Thomastik-Infeld Jazz Rounds like I would have liked but they are far too low
tension (even lower than the TI Flats) for this bass. The ebony nut is also cut
for either a .100 or .105 E string and the 0.89 gauge E of the JR-344's was far
too light a gauge for the slot. I don't want to replace the hand made ebony nut
only to find out that the tension is still inadequate to compensate for the
built-in back bow to the neck.

So now it's sitting on my bench waiting for me to figure out what strings to
put on it.

Little bit of wine, dinner, a romantic movie, a gentle rub down and string
it up.
