NONE of my guitar-amps idle at 800V nor peak at 4000.

And, if that "some folk" you speak of includes YOU, I question just who
the "wankers" really are.

IF you are an amp-tech, and you are actually earning a living from it, I
would guess there must not be any competition in your area as you don't
seem to know how to speak without belittling others and showing your ass.

If you AREN'T a tech, then your opinions are just that...worth no more
or less than any other poster.
