Default Cabinet advice (ampeg)

Hey guys,

I lurk here quite a lot. Don't post much but learn heaps. Having graduated
to the next level of live playing I'd had to move from my old Peavy TKO
combo to a decent setup. I'm a little tired of the distorted sounds and
general farting the combo seems to make.

Anyway, I've just bought a Gallien Krueger 400RB-III head and I need to get
a 4x10 cab to go with it. The question is, what cab do I get? I tried out
a few cheapies when testing the amp originally and compared them to the GK
cabs. There's a big difference in sound quality. Now, I'm tossing up
whether to go for a GK cab or maybe look at a few other brands like Ampeg,
Lab Systems, etc. I won't be able to test them all so I would like to ask
for your advice...

Thank you in advance.

Krayse

I have the same head and I have both the 1X15 and the 2X10 versions of the
SWR workingman's cabs. For smaller rooms I bring only one of those (depends
on my mood) and larger rooms I use both.

I used to have the GK 2X10 and it was ok but it wasn't ported and there's no
horn so I sold it.

If you're getting a single cab, I'd recommend 4 ohm cab if that's all you're
ever going to use with that head, as you will get better use out of your
head. (Both of my cabs are 8 ohm.)

HTH.

You are in Ontario ,, right? Care to share how much it was to your door?
I would be a little closer, so the shipping might be a little less.

If you have the budget, nothing pairs up with a GK head like an Eden
cab. Otherwise, I can safely say that Peavey's new cabs absolutely
rock with GK heads of your on a tight budget.

Which cabs do you like? The pro line stuff? They have so many lines
now it's hard to keep track.

Again, thanks for the info guys.

I've managed to find a second hand SWR Goliath III for $1400.00 AUD that a
music shop down here in Australia is going to put on hold for me.
