Default How to build a Cajon Drum. (m think)

I think I'm finally gonna get around to building 2 of these for
Christmas. Did any of you ever build one? What was your experience?

Default How to build a Cajon Drum. (so think)

Hello all you Cajon Player, I am looking to build a Cajon and need
plans . I see that CJG wrote that he has PDF plans . Could any one
please send me a copy. I play Drums in a Band, we were invited to a Jam
session and there was a young boy sitting on a Box then started to
play. my band was so excited about it and want me to try it out, now
we are all so crazy about having one. You have to think I live in
Germany and this Instument is not so Popular here yet like back home in
the states.
Would realy appreciate it if I could get plan and tips. even with the
snare sound would be great.
Thanks,
Jimmy A.

Could someone send me a copy of those pdf-plans, too?

Default How to build a Cajon Drum. (head beyond them think time)

I have gone beyond just emailing plans around. I actually got off
my butt and built my first cajon this weekend. It is not a sit-on top.
You hold and play it like a conga. Here are the dimensions and
materials:

The top (head) is 15"x15" 3mm (3ply) birch plywood I bought at my local
hardwood store. ~$4

The sides are 1/2" birch faced plywood I got at my local builing supply
store (Menards) ~7.00
The side panels are 25" tall. 15" at the top tapering to 4.5" at the
bottom. I don't think you could make the cuts without a tablesaw.

I glued it up with Titebond II (no metal fasteners) and rounded all of
the corners by hand with a palm sander

Total cost = $11.00
Total time = About 2.5 hours spread over a weekend

Results:
It's really light - maybe 5 lbs
It has good volume and passible tone seperation with a light touch
(jamming in the kitchen volume). Deep bass, OK tone, The slap is
distinct, but not too crisp.
Playing it harder adversely effects the tone seperation. The bass
doesn't get louder, only slappier. The tone gets louder and slappier,
the slaps get better, but they still don't really pop.
The head seems kind of flabby. If it were a skin head, it would
need tightening.

What I'm planning to do next:
Add some stylish legs to it. Screw them to the sides.
Add a couple ~5" slap pads on the corners.
Make another cajon with identical body dimensions but use 1/4" 5
ply for the top and see if it "tightens it up" a little.

Any thoughts/comments/suggestions? Please send them my way.

Hey there. Mind if you sent me a picture of what you built, or put one
online? I'd really love to see your work. Also, I'd like to read a kind
of personal report on what your suggestions and tips are after you have
built one.

Also, if there are manuals on how to build one, please drop me mail, I
have been thinking abou building one either.

Lot's of demands, I know, so please don't stress yourself. Thanks for
any suggestion in advance.
Peace,
Keno

Big Daddy,

thank you very much for the information.. it would be much easier and more
accurate to construct the drum if there are pictures and procedures how to
go about it. if you a have copy of such, please extend your generosity
by providing me with a copy. thank you very much and God Bless!

Here is a secret.
The plans that Big Daddy sent me that you seek, (were in Dutch and
Spanish) that I partially translated into English can be found on my
website.

Go to my website: www.drbengenius.com
When you get there you'll notice that the above address is really just
an alias and the true URL will appear (www.mrk-inc.com etc.)
now add the following to THAT address: /Cajon.zip/
Only one / between things.
Note that ONLY the C in cajon is upper case. Case IS important!
Then use that whole new address to access the website and your computer
should then try to download that file. Just download it and there you
go! Good luck!
