Interesting info from Nappy Brown's website....

<<Nappy rocketed to fame with a string of hits, was named No. 1 Male Vocalist
in North America from 1954 to 1958, toured for three years with Alan Freed's
road show, and blazed new trails into R&B and soul with his powerful joining of
gospel and blues. The author of many great hits including "Lemon Squeezin'
Daddy," "Well, Well Baby," and "Don't Be Angry," Nappy Brown is best known for
his 1957 hit "Night Time is the Right Time.">>

I didn't know that he was the # 1 male vocalist in North American for 5
straight years!!!!

Was Presley # 2 in '56, '57 & '58 I guess?

I just saw this on Google:
From Bruce Grossberg:

Vocalist
in North America from 1954 to >>1958, toured for three years with Alan
Freed's

gospel and blues. The author of >>many great hits including "Lemon Squeezin'

known for
his 1957 hit "Night Time is the >>Right Time.">>

straight years!!!!

My first reaction was: "Yeah, right"! Then I wondered : "By who"? I figured
it would have to be some R&B organization or magazine or such.

A search of the web turned up the following:

"#1 Male Vocalist in America from 1954-58, and again in 1996, by Real Blues
Magazine."

So, our mistorian is gullible enough to swallow the notion that Nappy Brown
beat out Elvis Presley and all the others who would beat him among the total
populace. Must fit into some preconceived notion of his.

I didn't realize that he recorded this song, but Whitburn says he had
the original version. Does anyone have his version? I wouldn't call
it a hit, and I wouldn't think he is best known for that song. The
only person I would consider to be best known for that song is Margie Hendrix.

It was a minor R & B hit.

Obviously the reason I posted this link is because of how preposterous some of
the claims were.

Rick Schubert says in article <vvq2tv0lvn32r2qocig826sn030m6fsb5f@4ax.com>:

I think Whitburn's wrong. On October 21 Diane, and then I, posted corrections:

And here I thought "nappy, brown" was the description of a hair style!

In the UK a brown nappy would have a different connotation.

Right!

Normally I quite like the different words the Yanks use for things but
"diapers" sounds so singularly dopey!

I know ... but I'd already used that one the last time ol' Nappy was mentioned.
