Default The Blues in South Central Los Angeles (beyond them time night)

Bernie Pearl
The first Blues DJ on FM Radio in Los Angeles who hosted BB King Albert King
Albert Collins and many many more on his 1968 blues show on KPPC Radio in
Pasadena
is currently hosting a Monday Night Jam session in South Central Los Angeles
The Venue is a restaurant named M'dears. The musicians are either seasoned
or young enthusiasts. It brings to mind the old "Ash Grove" of the 60's
The house band plays a few and then the sit in musicians get up for 3 songs
each.
Jam sessions like this are the lifeblood that keep the blues alive.
This particular neighborhood (78th and Western) was home to the likes of Big
Joe Turner, Lowell Fulsom, Smokey Wilson, Albert Collins and many more at
one time or another it is a great thing to see young players trying out
their stuff alongside old hands that bring them along gently.
The food is beyond great (smothered chicken with red beans and rice and
greens are this writers favorite)
I recommend anyone in the Los Angeles area on a Monday night to drop by
M'dears
7717 So. Western Avenue
Los Angeles
California 90047
music plays from around 8:00 PM to about 11:00PM

Worth the trip!
