Default Monroe Bros. Help Sought (m think)

I'm putting together a couple of CDs of what I have of the Monroe
Brothers. The only way to order the cuts that makes sense to me is
chronologically by recording. I've found most of what I have in the
on-line discography project, which has (I think) all of the Bluebird
information, but I'm left with the following recordings, for which I
would like to find Master No., Recording Date, Catalog No., Issue Date
& Label, and Personnel (when there's more than just Bill and Charlie).
(Bringin' In The Georgia Mail has a fiddle and a harmonica, for
example.):

No Home, No place To Pillow My Head,
The Great Speckled Bird,
Once I had A Darling Mother,
Rosa Lee McFall,
Bringin' In The Georgia Mail,
Don't Forget me Little Darling,
Mother's Not Dead, She's Only A-Sleeping.

Thanks for any help.

Default Monroe Bros. Help Sought (time)

Joel,

I have the Japanese 3-CD set with liner notes in
Japanese as well as some of the Rounder CDs. I assume
that you are aware that Bear Family has just released
a fully annotated set which includes not only the 36
or so commercially released recordings but many
previously unreleased, too. I don't have time to
check these now, but I'll see if I can locate any
of that information. I don't yet have the Bear Family
set, which should have all of that.

Thanks, Steve, that'll be a big help. I think, by the way, that quite
a few more than 36 recordings were released commercially. They
apparently recorded 60 sides for RCA/ Bluebird (and I think that they
were all released on Bluebird?) and at least the others that I ask
about. Also, in looking for the information I saw that Rounder has
released at least two CDs as the start of an announced complete
recordings set. On the other hand, it seems that that project may have
been dropped or put on the back burner.

Does anyone have the "box set" released by JSP?
It's titled "Bill Monroe: All the Classic Releases 1937-1949",
and is four CDs with 112 tracks total... all for about $25.

I haven't looked closely at the track listing for completeness,
or read any reviews concerning sound quality.

I did buy two of the CDs that Rounder put out with early
Monroe Bros. releases, but to tell you the truth, I was pretty
peeved when I did some quick math. Rounder CDs are already too
expensive (often $15-18 per CD), and I noticed that the Monroe
Brothers series was "stretched", i.e. they included fewer tracks
per CD in order to stretch the series out and make you buy an
extra CD. I dislike Rounder more and more each day.

Duh! I see that you had mentioned the Rounder set. Perhaps I should
look more carefully before I leap!

I think those cuts you are having problems with are actually by Charlie Monroe
(no Bill). They are sometimes released as by the Monroe Brothers (on LP I
know), but are actually later things with Charlie and some other guy(s).

Default Monroe Bros. Help Sought (electric guitar electric)

Hey Joel

You seem to have listed some sides by CHARLIE MONROE'S BOYS (Bluebird as well)
and CHARLIE MONROE'S KENTUCKY PARTNERS (RCA). I guess they are included in the
online discography depending on the year it cuts off.

I don't remember all the personell but the Partners include Tex Isley on
electric guitar and Buzz Busby, mandolin. They are all gems.

Default Monroe Bros. Help Sought (time the brothers charlie)

One arm around a whiskey jug? They came to me off'n the old RCA/Camden
Monroe Brothers LP, which I bought new and put on the shelf, being
more interested in the Blue Sky Boys at the time. (I've re-evaluated
that position.) charlie and his boys and/or pardners sound so much
like the brothers that I simply accepted that it was the brothers.
Thanks for your help.
