Default Behringer MX series vs. UB series vs. Mackies

It seems like the new Behriger UB mixer series are actually less
expensive than the corresponding MX mixers with the same number of
channels. What gives? Shouldn't the MX series be cheaper if it's been
replaced by the UB series?

Are there any 6 to 10 channel Mackie mixers that compete in price with
the Behringers? I don't much care about the quality of the preamps
because I'm not recording vocals or acoustic instruments.

Any other good contenders in the 6 to 10 channel analog mixer biz?

I think I'll not bother with built-in effects and simply purchase a
used outboard multieffects unit; probably would have better quality
anyway.

Thanks.

Talking to myself here since no one's yet responded, but I'm also
wondering about Yamaha's MG 10/2 mixer; seems a bargain at USD $99. Is
the build quality of the Yamahas generally better than what you'd get
with an Alesis or Behringer mixer?

Also wondering what the "real" price is for a Yamaha MG 10/2 or any of
the various 8-10 channel mixers from Behringer or Alesis. Seems the
prices listed online and in music catalogs, even if they claim to be
"sale" prices are still inflated and there's probably room for
negotiation. I wonder how much price "wiggle room" there is with these
inexpensive mixers. I don't see a lot of bargains on eBay for used
mixers in my price range.

Thanks.

You'd think that, but it may be that the new mixers are less expensive
because they can be produced for less. Give it a while though. Once
the manufacturers are conviced that they've sold as many of the old
line as they can, they'll typically blow out the surplus stock for
bargain prices.
