Default Looking for a Vito Alto neck (neck)

Hi folks. I just acquired a Vito Alto that is missing the neck piece. Do any of
you band directors or repair guys have a trashed Vito Alto with an OK neck piece
you can sell me?

Many thanks,
Glenn

NAPBIRT used to have a parts wanted area on their website - napbirt.org - but I
don't see one anymore; wouldn't hurt to email and ask. Ferree's is a big
repair part and supply company, they have a parts wanted page -
http://ferreestools.com/parts_needed.htm - could try them too. I think they
sell Leblanc (Vito) parts, so they can probably even give you a price for a new
one if it comes to that.
Try local repair shops, too. It's amazing the stuff that collects.
Good luck,

Peter

I didn't know Vito made alto saxes. I'm for summer use, looking for a good
alto so I wonder what the price is.

Default Looking for a Vito Alto neck (yamaha)

Is the neck for an alto clarinet or an alto sax ?

Vito make most of the saxes and clainets and even flute. I don't rate the
saxes as good as the clarinets.

For a good alto try Jupiter 767, Elkhart series II or SXA, Trevor James 'the
Horn' ot Yamaha 25.

I assumed it was for an alto clarinet since it's a clarinet group, but it could
be for a sax. If you're looking for a neck for a fairly recent Vito sax, you
should be careful because there are three models being made by three different
companies, and the necks may not be intechangeable. There's one being made by
Yamaha which is a model 23 (or 25 or 275 or whatever it is now) that says Vito
on the bell. It will say Japan on it. There's also a Vito model made in
Taiwan by Jupiter - haven't seen one so I don't know how they're marked.
There's also one that's actually made in the US by Vito - should be marked as
being made in the US. Yamaha also makes a bass clarinet model for Vito, I
don't know what else. Any Vito instruments marketed or labeled as made in
Japan are Yamahas.

I'm a bit mixed up here.
What is the length of an "alto" clarinet?. I've only had experience of Bb
clarinets.
This is not a nasty question. I just don't know.

It's not too much longer than a Bb from one end to the other but it has a
crook and bell so would be about half as much again if it was stretched out.

An alto has pretty much the same mechanism as a soprano clari which makes it
easy enough to play, whereas the bass can take quite a bit of getting used
to. I find them great fun though I don't think there is so much music
about for them.

Default Looking for a Vito Alto neck (the band)

An alto clarinet is pitched in Eb, right between the Bb soprano clarinet
you know so well and the Bb bass clarinet.

There isn't an awful lot of literature for alto clarinet. Many pieces for
clarinet choir include alto, but in the band literature, I see more parts
for contra-alto and contra-bass than I do for alto.

I bought a used alto at an estate sale years ago, and was very disappointed
in the sound. However, one of the sax players in our band has a
high-quality alto clarinet and knows how to play it. We did a clarinet
choir piece last summer where he played his alto, and it was just
hauntingly beautiful: rich and full. I was awestruck.

BTW, it has been said that "the definition of a band nerd is someone who
owns his own alto clarinet."

About as much as for viola, or maybe less.
