I am very much a novice drummer ( I have played a little over a
year, and am really a bassist). I bought a set of these with my very
first kit. I thought they were okay at the time. After borrowing some
zildjians, I discovered that the slingerlands were very dead and muted
sounding. I sold them after a few months. If they aren't good enough
for me, I bet they won't be good enough for you either. One thing I am
learning (or at least finally convincing myself of after several
years) is that it's just not worth buying a poor quality instrument
just because it is cheap or a "good deal". There are low cost
instruments that are excellent, and then there are things that are
just bad at any price. I think these Slingerlands cymbals are in that
category - they would be bad if they cost $25 a set. I think the
Slingerland snares are very cool however.
