Judiciously selected.

It means someone reached in a bin and pulled it out
with his/her hand! :-)

It's SUPPOSED to mean that the person carefully examined it
and only accepted it if it met some supposedly high standards.

In actually practice I've noticed that while LP "hand-picked
heads are generally a higher quality than run of the mill
ones, they don't seem especially "hand-picked" to me.
Some are pretty good, but others are no better than the
usual LP heads.

Yeah, thanks. What I couldn't figure out, though, was judiciously selected
as vs what? And, what criteria?

The criteria of the hand that did the picking?
VS random selection.

hi scruffy,
in our case, "hand picked" means: after talking to you about which
drums you play, in what context, and what your personal taste is in
skins; we choose from our select inventory of american bullhide skins,
the particular thickness (each skin is measured with a micrometer for
an average thickness) the most appropriate skin for your needs.
but that's just us...

Got Cajones?
....yeah, the box drums...

Thank you, Millie!

Beautiful, clear, concise response. This, I understood!

I followed the link to visit fatcongas.com. That was the first time I'd seen
"Cajones" drums. Seriously,... When I read the ending of your posted
message, my initial reading of the ending of your message, was taking the
last 2 non-link lines as being suggestive of something besides percussion
instruments; or, perhaps, an interesting way of approaching an intimate
dance as being a percussive musical art-form. And, I thought, yes - I have
them. But, following the link, I realized, no - the boxes which are drums
are actual wooden boxes! Real drums! And, I realized that no - these, I
didn't have. It was very interesting stuff on that page. They look very
nice.

And, thank you for clearing up for me, what "hand picked" means in the
percussion industry.

Rule: You can never own too many drums! (Includes wooden boxes that are drums!)

Scruffy,
Sunbear did NOT clear up what "hand picked" means in the percussion
industry. It cleared up what it means with their products!
Their meaning is (unfortunately) NOT necessarily the industry standard.
