sounds great! i just got back from some time in Welfleet on Caoe
Cod...and actually spent time in woonsocket and newport while growing up, but had never heard of this area. will have to check it out sometime while in the north. have fun! much respect, Crystal Re: Lineup for New England Reggae Festival Group: rec.music.reggae Date: Thu, Jul 10, 2003, 1:51pm (EDT+4) From: gypsydread@aol.com (GypsyDread) Should any of you go, just down the road from the entrance to the park where the festival will take place is a complex known as The Fantastic Umbrella Factory that is worthy of a visit before the music starts. The complex consists of a half dozen or so shops that feature such things as stained glass, pottery, paintings, clothing, African crafts and, of course, umbrellas. One shop, Small Axe, is operated by David Turano, a/k/a Davey Dread, a potter and the bassist for the local reggae band, Dub Squad. He sells drums, pots and lots between and always has reggae playing. The complex also has a nursery, a coffee shop/veggie restaurant, gardens, peacocks, sheep, chickens and bamboo. The place is a unique treat and a relaxing respite. It's on the right heading toward the ocean from Rt. 1 and is easy to miss-- gravel parking lot, no big sign, vintage buildings set back from the road. |
