Default What can a 'folk club' accomplish (love)

Living in Jacksonville, Fla., we have a couple of venues where original folk
music is available, a few of us host house concerts, and we have some fine
local talent and a good core of fans. St Augustine, with its bustling folk
community, is nearby. We have a statewide folk club, 'Friends of Florida
Folk', and they do a fine job, but their impact on the local scene is
limited. We have no local community radio. The best we have is the
standard NPR station. Don't get me wrong, I love Prairie Home Companion and
Car Talk, but there is nothing local. I'd like to see some coordination and
brainstorming among the promoters, the artists, and the fans. I am thinking
of bringing those groups together searching for ideas that would be mutually
beneficial to all, while building on the folk community. Brainstorming will
be a part of this, and that's why I'm posting this. For those with a
thriving folk community, what has worked for you?

Incidentally, if you haven't tuned into the 24/7 radio station on the net,
'Folk Alley', then you'd better tune in.

Thanks
-Ken in Jax
