i have an oberheim ob32 keyboard (not the module), and i am trying to
use another module with it and am having some problems. i am trying to
use a piano patch on the module, but i’m getting the string patch when
i play the ob32. its probably something real simple, but unfortunately
i’m a “midiot”….
thanks in advance for any help,

Not sure what an OB 32 is, but in general… Whether you’re playing a
string patch or a piano patch depends on the module that’s producing
the tone. You’ve got the module set to play a piano sound, right?
Also, the keyboard can transmit a patch change message over MIDI which
will cause the module to switch patches. Are you changing the
module’s patch by hitting patch switches on the keyboard? If so, keep
in mind that patch changes just tell the receiving instrument to
“switch to patch number whatever”, and that one synth may have a piano
sound for patch number one while another might have a string sound

Check the MIDI channel the OB is transmitting on – if the module is
multi-timbral maybe you are playing a different channel to the one you are
looking at on the module’s screen.
