I was under the impression that Tele necks and Strat necks are more or
less interchangable yes? no?
I’ve got a cheap Squire Strat in need of a replcement neck and I’m
trying to figure out what my options are for a cheap replacement.

The end of the Tele neck is squared off and the end of the Strat’s is rounded.
A Tele neck can be bolted on, but will leave a fairly ugly gap.

Sure, it’s been done. Somewhere, I’ve got a picture of Jimi Hendrix playing
a Strat with a Tele neck.
Check eBay too.

Strat neck will fit on a Tele, but the Tele won’t fit a Strat. At least not
on the ones I have. You either have to square the pocket on the Strat or
round the end of the Tele neck.

I have my Tele neck on my Strat and my Strat neck on my Tele.
They both fit perfectly except on one of them I had to shave away at the
pickguard a bit. I switched them because I wanted the rosewood
fingerboard on my Strat and the Maple on my Tele.
As for the Squier, I know sometimes things are not very standard, like
trying to get a pickguard with matching holes etc.

Right, thanks – misremembered that.

How’s this for a Tele-Strat Frankenstine.
If you are interested, I have a Black Walnut Tele neck with an ebony
I can send you pictures of it if you like.
It NEVER had been screwed to a body.
It IS an NOS Fender Neck.

There’s a mutt. Completely agree on the string lengths. For the first year or so
after my first Strat, I went insanely nuts with crazy low string bends BWaaaaaoooooooo.
And keeper of a very interesting parts bin.

Sounds enticing, but it also sounds like it would cost more than I’m
looking to spend on this thing. I pulled it out of the trash along
with some other stuff that had been damaged when a local music store
was flooded. I sort of promised myself that I wouldn’t let this
dumpster diving experience turn into a reason to spend money on
equipment. I’ll be looking around to see whether I can find something
for around $20 somewhere. Based on looking at eBay auctions I’ll
probably be looking for a long time.

Not exactly. Have book with picture of Hendrix holding same. Can be
done! Peace Chris

Rich, what radius and fret wire? Peace Chris

I think one of the best necks you can get that will work with a tele or a
strat is carvins at 130.00…
I don’t know if stew macs necks will have fretwork at that level or not. I
think they are a little cheaper.
For twenty bucks you can have the tele neck off my squier. *g*

Yamaha’s take on the Strat and Tele (Pacifica series) both use the same
neck — which has the square-ish “Tele” end.
