Fun - They look like they are blowing in the wind. OR maybe it is
dancing. Have we had pink ones before? or am I mixing my orchids. For
some reason I thought they were all yellow/brown tones.

Hi Susan,
I'm not sure if Diuris punctata has been posted before but they are actually
purple - known as the Purple Diuris. They are widely spread across a large
area but not that often seen and are regarded as rare by botanists.

I haven't seen one (in the wild). I want to see one. Seeing as you mentioned
"Braeside" I assume that's where you got the plants/seeds from. I know they
are there but I think they're in a fenced off area. I'm in that direction on
Friday and may have to wander around a bit.

Reiner,
Yes they (or rather it) did come from Braeside Park. In 1993 they asked me
to look at their colony of D. punctata as it had fallen to just a few
plants. They asked me to take the only clump (3) to try to grow it on but I
decided I couldn't take the responsibility of removing so many so I took a
single plant. Now have about 20 in 3 pots increased from seed and by tuber
removal method. I put 3 back into their "compound" a few years later and
found they had still survived 4 years after that.
The area where they grow is fenced but there are gates but I suspect you'd
need permission to get into there and directions how to also.
If you are there, go to their offices (at the end of a gravel drive beside a
long row of BIG Cyprus trees (or at least that's where it was the last time
I visited them)
Intro yourself and use my name although so many changes have taken place I
think they've forgotten me. Print off one of the images - might be a
pacifier!!!.
Regards,
Malcolm Thomas
