Long time member but I don't post often. Dendrobium orchids have
several issues to challege the grower. Mine did poorly for many years
until I put them in the brighest area of the green house and added a
fan to move the air around. One of my old suffering dendrobium
orchids was in the path of a new greenhouse fan I installed to move
the air around. It took off and I had blooms set for the first time
since I purchased it in 1992. This was 2002. I moved all of my
dendrobium orchids into the path of the fan and they all took off.

Several things I have found due to reading, talking with other growers
and my own experiments. They like to be potted in on the root bound
side. So don't move them into huge pots. They like high air mosture
and plenty of air movement, use organic fertilizers and not inorganic
types like peters. I found an organic bloom fertilizer product in a
hydroponic store work wonders with them.

Some need a winter rest period of low water and low nitrogen. Only way
to figure this out is to know the parents of your plant. Most
commerically sold dendrobium orchids are not this type. Dendrobium
orchids are a large group of orchids which range from high mountain
foothills (ie cold hardy plants) to very tropical areas (not cold
hardy at all). They all for the most part like breeze places when you
see them in the wild.
