Hi Lisa -
Welcome to this group - everybody seems to know
something here, so we muddle along pretty well.
I'd guess that your mystery plant is a nobile-type
dendrobium, perhaps a Yamamoto hybrid.
These seem to fall into two categories, care-wise:
some need to be kept almost completely dry from early
November until they bloom; the other type can be
watered, but not fertilized.
These are deciduous, so when the leaves fall off next
winter, DON'T TOSS the plant, it's not dead (ask me
how I know).
These are really fine plants, flowers usually scented,
and long lasting.
