Default encouraging bathing

Despite the wetted greens....or the bath....
my budgie will not bath. I have to resort to spritzing him...although
my Lovebird bathes enthusiastically. Anyone coaxed their budgie to bathe
by themselves? He does enjoy watching my lovebird bathe and sits near
enough to get a bit of a splash...but?????

Hi Brenda - I can only get my budgies to take a bath by either spritzing them or giving them soaking wet spinach/lettuce leaves (they burrow in them, I wish I had a movie camera!)

My lovebird wants to socialize with the budgies but I have to be VERY careful - she's decided they're the leaders of the flock and wants to preen them but her nips are too hard for them. Of course, one of my budgies has decided he's in love with her, but he's very, very careful of her beak :-)

Heh...sounds neat. My budgie and lovebird get along wonderfully...they fly
everywhere together and constantly preen and love on each other! My budgie
IS however very careful with the lovebirds "moods".

Our parakeet would bathe by himself, and he loved it.

When I would clean out his cage, I would pour water (gently, slowly) from my
Brita pitcher into his birdbath, through the bars of the cage from up above.
He would perch on the side of the cage between the stream of water and the
birdbath, and position himself under the stream of water, lifting his wings
and flapping them as the water poured over him. He would stand under the
stream for about 20 seconds, fly to another part of the cage for a moment or
two, then fly back to position himself under the stream of water again. He
loved this and would do it every time I'd clean his cage. When his shower
was finished (I would pour water until he stopped perching on the side of
the cage--it would get the counter quite wet ), I would find him later in
the afternoon holding onto his hanging toy with one foot, and dipping his
chest and wings into the water in his "tub", then flapping his wings to get
the water off.

He loved his showers/bath, and I'm surprised when I read of other parakeets
that don't seem to like water or bathing.

If our budgie feel like a bath when he's out of his cage, he'll dive
under a cold running tap in the kitchen sink.

It's really cool when your budgie will bathe in your hands under a running
tap. We only discovered that Buddie would do this a couple of years before
he passed :-( It was great fun while it lasted. He loved it. We
discovered it completely by accident.
