Default Quakers & Budgies

I currently have two young budgies. One english and one american. There is a
woman in my area that has a 4 month old quaker that she wants to get rid of.
My question is, would it be ok to house the budgies with the quaker or
should I give him his own cage? The cage I have my budgies in is plenty big
enough for another bird so that is not an issue. I'm just wondering if the
two species would get along.

Absolutely not!
Never place a larger bird, with strong territorial instincts and large beak
into a cage with smaller birds. The quaker could easily kill or maim the
budgies.
Have you ever owned a quaker? Do you know just how loud they can be? And how
aggressive towards other birds ? If your budgies get too close to the
quaker's cage he will attack them.

Don't get this quaker. You are not ready for one IMO.Before you get any
other bird if you wish to add to your flock, don't simply get one on the
spur of the moment because "someone I know has one they want to get rid of".
That is the worst reason to get a bird. If you must add to your flock, take
the time to do some research into which species might be suitable for your
home and your other birds.

We don't have a quaker but are thinking of getting a quaker or conure at
some point in the future. They would have to live with budgies . I
have read that you should NOT keep them in the same cage and have to
monitor them when they are loose together, or I guess let them out at
different times (though I've had budgies sneak into ****atiel cages when
they were closed, so I don't know how you would keep them out of a
larger cage)

****atiels and budgies are compatible together. They originate from the
same country. Conures and quakers should never be housed with budgies or
cokatiels.
You already know that conures and budgies should NOT be in the same cage
and you are inviting disaster and heartbreak by going ahead with your plan
in the face of the facts.

We will definitely take your posts into consideration.

The bird society we belong to has many members who have many kinds of
birds (and of course many birds constantly up for adoption). We plan to
ask around and think very carefully before acquiring any more
hypothetical birds. Of course the welfare (physical and emotional) of
existing pets must supersede our desire to get any new pets.

That's great. You sound like a very sensible birdkeeper.
I have around 70 of various species and yes I occasionaly mix species but
only certain ones. My quakers are housed in an aviary with no other species.
I sucessfully keep tiels and green cheeked conures along with canaries in a
large mixed aviary with an odd nanday and one blue throated conure. But they
were all put into t his aviary together a couple of weeks ago as it is a new
one. It is also large enough for birds to avoid each other if they want to.
They are happy together. Indoors I keep one red masked and one blue crowned
conure in a cage, one african grey with a blue fronted amazon, and in
another cage I have a goffins and a white fronted amazon hen.I know my
indoor birds and the process of putting 2 different species together is a
long drawn out process over several months sometimes and nothing is ever put
into a cage with an existing bird in. They all get put together into a new
cage. I would not put a quaker into a cage with anything else they are
simply too territorial. Neither would I mix any of the poicephalus species
with other birds. As a rule of thumb for the novice, I would advise not to
put bird originating from different continents together.
