Books and FAQs say I should play with my bird at least 15-30 minutes as day.
My question is what do you do during this play time? The only thing I do is
play ladder with my fingers, and perch it different rooms while I hang out.
It is a Parakeet.

Get a spool from a spool of thread (make sure the thread is
off) and put a marble on top of the spool. Parakeets love to knock
the marble off of the spool. I used to take care of a neighbor's
Parakeet, Billy, if the neighbor went away on vacation. The knock
the marble off of the spool would be played outsied of Billy's cage,
not inside.

In the kitchen we had a wooden stool (almost like a bar stool) and I
would put the threadless spool on the stool & place a marble on top of
the spool. Billy would like to knock the marble off & he wanted to
hear the marble whack the hard floor, he'd get annoyed when I caught
the marble in my hand. Coffee tables are good for this game too.

Can you go to a pet shop & buy a yellow & green plastic bird shaped
toy on 2 wheels? It's like a " punching bag" for the bird. We called
the toy, Billy's girlfriend because he'd pay so much attention to it &
talk to it. Be sure you buy a brightly colored one. Billy ignored
the white & black one. Billy would play with his "girlfriend" inside
the cage or out.

Parakeets love attention. Billy would hang upside down on his perch &
squawk loudly if my family did not pay attention to him.
