Default Oh no, not again

Trouble has an overactive thyroid now.

I took him to the vet on Saturday. I'd been thinking for a while that
he didn't seem quite right. Nothing major, just a growing realisation
that he's behaving very much like Scaredycat did before we realised she
was ill. And I was right, he has lost a kilo since June.

Vet just called with his results. Thyroxine off the scale :-((((

She was quite upbeat about it, says that it should respond well to meds.
I'm filled with dread because Scaredy suffered so much, but the thyroid
was the least of her problems; it was cancer that got her. I'm trying
to keep calm but I'm so not ready to go through that again.

On the plus side I have a bottle of Felimazole left over from Scaredy's
illness, so I've been able to start him on his thyroid meds tonight,
wasting no time.

Purrs that treatment will go smoothly for his overactive thyroid. At
least this is not a difficult condition to treat!

Purrs for the treatment to work, and for him not to develop any more
problems.

Good thing you were alert enough to get him in. I hope the vet is right that
he should do well, but, how frustrating and worrisome it is for you to have
to go through this again.

Purrs for Trouble! As you may remember, Frank and Nikki had
hyperthyroidism for the last 3-4 years of their lives, and it was not
what killed them. They did very well on the meds (as long as I could get
the meds *into* them). Best of luck. Trouble will be fine.

BTW - this is an aside, but I remember a post on this newsgroup from
a number of years ago, about someone's cat seeing his first snowstorm
from the open doorway, and looking up at his human with an accusing
glare that said, "You BROKE the OUTSIDE."

I just thought that was hilarious and I've always wondered who it was
who posted that. One other thing I remember is that the cat was named
"Trouble". Were you the one who posted that?

I used this expression with a friend once, and she thought it was so
creative that she went around telling all her friends about my witty
saying. I hated to have to correct her, that I wasn't the one who thought
that up!

Hope your boy is doing better and taking his medicine!

Joyce

PS - Trouble sounds like it should be a name for one of Kristi's cats!
