Default Dumb question about licking

X-No-Archive: Yes

Something I have wondered about and Buford just started doing it in the last
few years.

He licks pillows - he loves pillows and will lay on a pile of them most
happily. But he will choose one and lick it till its wet in one large spot
and lacking a pillow he will lick the mattress on the bed.

I asked my vet about it and she just looked at me and started laughing and
said - this is a time when I wished dogs talked - I have no idea. So
lacking information from Buford himself - has anyone else seen a dog do this
and if so - what the heck does it mean?

I have no idea what it means, but my chihuahuas do this with the
bedclothes. I suspect they can taste our skin flakes and oils, or maybe
they just like the taste of the sheets. It doesn't seem to be a compulsion
- they don't do it all the time, and they do it more frequently when the
bedclothes need changing.
