I've had Danny's blood drawn many times from the Jugular. And no, it wasn't
necessarily a crisis. He had really rolly viens
The jugular was just .. easier

Towards the end the vets up at Cornell were drawing Greta's
blood from a hind leg, but she was elderly and well poked-
over. Otherwise it's always been a foreleg with every vet
I've used. I've never seen blood drawn from the jugular and
didn't know they did that, so that's pretty interesting.

Image's first round of demodecosis was treated up at
Cornell, which meant that we had students (a different one
very time) doing the scrapings, and while almost all of them
shaved to do it the actual scrapings ranged from delicate
and nicely-done to looking something like she'd been gouged
with a spoon. With this round of treatment we have a pretty
good idea what we're dealing with and so we're seeing my
regular vet, who doesn't shave the spot to be sc****d and
doesn't butcher the poor dog.

long ago and far away, Shelly <scouvrette@yahoo.com> did say:

we rarely do blood draws from forelegs, especially if there's any
chance at all that the pet will need an iv catheter, etc. don't want
to booger them up. for a lot of blood, we use the jugular. for just a
little bit (like a heartworm snap test), i prefer a hind leg.

i can't tell you the last time i shaved a pet to get blood. not even
the very ungroomed samoyed yesterday.

........I meant to say NECK NECK NECK! I have had dogs come back from
emergency situations with a shaved spot on the neck, but never for regular
vet visits. Gotta quit.....too much coffee, too little sleep.

..........sigh, and that's the difference in having someone with *the touch*
draw blood - less likely to get hemolysis too.

Heh. I thought that must be what you meant, considering the
structure of the sentence.
