Suzie,

Why do you want a low protein food? Protein is a required building block for
healthy muscle and skin and coat and if you need to reduce it due to a
medical condition then your vet can probably get a prescription food for
that purpose.

If you are looking to reduce weight, there are several pre made foods that
can help while still maintaining an optimum nutritional level of protein.

If you want to feed BARF, then research that on Google and get ready to surf

1. Fill gas tank and go to vets

2. Ask for a prescription food to fill your dogs needs.

........If the creatinine is also high in the blood and a urinalysis shows
low specific gravity, then it is the kidneys. If it's just the BUN, it may
not necessarily be kidneys. Kidney disease would show up in all those
parameters.

My vet has prescribed

.......Go to Yahoo and join K9kidney. Lots of folks there to help you. Good
luck with your elderly friend.

Susie,
Assuming that the elevated BUN is the result of renal failure. Low
protein is not the most critical issue for renal failure animals. Low
phosphorus, lower sodium, and increased Omega 3 fatty acids are all
critical in the treatment of renal failure. A senior food or low
protein food will not accomplish the goal. Cats fed a renal failure
diet live about twice as long as those fed a typical grocery store
diet with average phosphorus levels.

I found excellent professional help above. The cost of the diet
and extended consultations was $100.
