Default Smelly dog problem

I didnt realize that the type of food my dog ate could be a cause to the way
he smells. When I wash my dog he smells all nice and clean then after
sleeping for a few nights he gets this smell of like feces. He doesnt go the
bathrooom where he sleeps so i never understood it. His father had the same
problem. I cannot feed him anything different I have to feed him a certain
brand and flavor bc if i give him anything else he gets diaherea really bad.
One time I gave him chicken and his stools were so runny they actually
started having blood in them so i stopped giving him anything but canned
ol'roy wet dog food from walmart beef flavored. thats all he can eat. i will
look into the reason he smells now that you say if a dog has an odor there
is someting wrong i just thought he was a smelly kinda dog hehe. thanks so
much

Switching to something else cold turkey will often cause what you say.
This statement "can not feed anything else" is not a correct statment.
Slowly switching your dog to another diet can and will be ok for a
dog. It usually take about amonth to slowly switch, but to simply feed
a dog something completely different is going to cause the symtoms you
describe.

As for Ol' Roy, thre are much better foods out there. If cost is an
issue, stick with it but I doubt your dog is going to smell any
different with that food. Why not try something you can make at home.
The ingredeint list is as follows:

Ground Corn
Ground up beef bones
Ground Wheat
Soybean Meal
Wheat Middlings
ground up chicken bones
Rice
The ground up guts of animals
Salt
and an assortment of minerals and vitamins

This soulds like a good combination of food for your dog. Do you
agree?

You said that as for ol'roy there are much better foods out there which I am
aware. I don't spending a lot of money on food is a big deal as long as the
dog likes it. hell the dog probably is getting more nutritionally then I
do This was my mothers dog. I asked her about the smell and told her what
you recommended about getting better food. She used to be a breeder and very
good quality companies would send her free food for the dogs. The one I had
said no matter what she fed him my dog and his father always smelled that
way. They smell nice for a few days after bathing and that's it. I just have
to live with the smell. They are in good condition. mine is 7 now and has
been eating the ol'roy for probably at least half his life I would say.
thanks for the help anyway though.
