Default Torn ACL in 16 month old Bullmastiff

My poor Bully had a partial tear (on Sunday) that appears to now be a
full tear today. She was going upstairs and her back end gave out.
Now she doesn't use her hind leg.

I'm looking for opinions on repair methods. We have an appointment
with her vet (who is wonderful) tonight (our second appointment this
week) to push things along. I'd like to be prepared for this meeting
with as much information as possible so that I can ask the intelligent
questions to start.

Comments are much appreciated!

There is more than one technique used to surgically repair an ACL tear.
Unfirtunately these things don't mend on their own. I would suggest posting
this also at alt.med.veterinary where vets read and reply.

I have a golden retriever that had TPLO surgery on both of her knees. I am
glad I decided upon this surgery for her.
My suggestion is to ask LOTS of questions to your vet. Treatment, side
effects, problems, statistics, etc.
There are lots of different types of surgery.
Also, there is an email list called Orthodogs at http://groups.yahoo.com
You have to register with yahoo, but it is free. ACL injuries are discussed at
length on the list. Lots of people.
I would also suggest setting up an appointment with an orthopedic specialist
and get their take on options that are best for your dog.
Here are some sites that discuss ACL injuries in dogs:

Be sure to copy paste this link -- because for some reason, it didn't link the
entire site... it doesn't come up for me when I click it. The other ones do,
however.

Take care,

You're welcome, Carol Ann.
I still lurk on the orthodogs list...I have been on it 3+yrs since my golden
had her first TPLO surgery. Good list.

My dog chocolate lab had torn ligaments on both knees at 1 year old. He had
the TPLO Surgery on both knees and after all the cost, rehabilitation, I am
very happy with the results. It is very stressful to be in your position,
check out these links that helped me a lot!!
