Default Kitty Upchuck

Hi all

I'm having a little issue with one of my cats, and was curious to see if
anyone else has had this problem.

My cat has frequent bouts of upchucking, usually once to five times a week.
Its always undigested food. We've taken her to the vet, and the vet cannot
find anything wrong. The vet suggested changing the diet, but all that has
done is changed the color of the upchuck. We've tried the low grade food
(Meow Mix and something else), to high grade like Science Diet. We're
stumped as to what to do.

Anyone have this problem with a cat before?

Brat, my Siames is like this. Some cats just have more sensitive stomachs than
others...just like humans. If everything checks out fine with the vet, then I wouldn't be
too overly concerned with it. As long as she is healthy and doing normal kitty stuff,
then it should not be a problem....other than cleaning up the mess. :-(

Have you tried giving her an all natural food? Something that doesn't use
nasty chemical preservatives and doesn't have alot of crap fillers maybe.

My kittens are about 3 1/2 months old now. I leave out dry Hills Science
diet for them in a bowl, so they can nibble on it throughout the day and
night. In the morning and at supper, I bring them a plate of the Hills
canned kitten food. One morning after Cindy ate her canned kitten food, she
upchucked the entire amount on the plate. I don't know why the upchucking
happened, either. I remember another time a few weeks ago when Lucy started
making these weird body spasms, then threw up all over the carpet. I
assumed that maybe she ate a bug or something that didn't agree with her.
The kittens don't seem to be as voraciously hungry as they were in the past,
so maybe they are learning to pace their eating a bit.

Have you tried her on a wet food or fresh meat to see if the problem
is diet related? Even if this is only a temporary change it may help
you eliminate diet as an issue. I found that even with wet food my
sensitive cat will vomit so I had to find a brand that wasn't too rich
for him.

Is your cat a long-hair? I have a long-hair cat that we have gone through
stages of this off and on for the last year. He couldn't throw up his fur
in a hairball, nor could he pass it when he used the litter box. When the
hairball got big enough, he'd start upchucking undigested food on a daily
basis, sometimes twice a day, because there is nowhere for the food to go.
Thankfully, we haven't had this happen (knocking on wood) since February.
Oscar gets hairball medicine once every three days and is on Science Diet
w/d (high fiber). In addition, we also add extra fiber to his wet food.

The Hairball Control wasn't enough fiber for Oscar. W/d has a higher fiber.
You might have your vet check your cat's colon (only takes an X-ray) and
make sure that it's not blocked. That was Oscar's problem.

HTH,

Joyce
