Default Food Favourites

All my pigsters have had different favourite food.
Some will even eat one variety of apple and not another.
The 'all time favourites' of Primo Piggo (Chuckles) in descending order
are.....
strawberries
tomato
rolled oats (porridge)
and iceburg lettuce
.......how does that match with the experience of others?
Can anyone suggest anything new for the pig with a palate for
fine food !!!
kelvyn.

I'm not sure about feeding your piggy iceburg lettuce. I have read in
several places that it binds to the calcium and won't let them absorb it
correctly if at all. I think the best bet is to let him eat leaf lettuce
(kale, romaine...) and not head lettuce.
My pig likes to eat CARROTS, LETTUCE, bananas sometimes, APPLES & PEARS, and
sometimes Cheerios.
You just have to experiment with different fruits and veggies. I'd look up
some pages about guinea pigs and get an idea of what everyone else feeds
their pets! It helped for me. I've had my pig for 4 long healthy years and
I'm thinking I have a few more to go!

After waking up from Jigglypuff's lullaby fully refreshed on Tue, 8

Hi Kelvyn, my mommy gives me a lot of neat stuff to munch on:

tomato
apple
broccoli (florette only)
carrot (about once a week)
corn on the cob (still on the cob - only sweet corn, the rest will
rot)
Spring Mix lettuce - which has a variety of goodies in it
Timothy Cubes
Timothy Hay (free choice)
Ice Cubes (I like to lick these, hehehehehhehehehe)
Cabbage
Brussel Sprouts (not too often though, sometime I like them, sometimes
I don't)

And that about it...Mommy also gives me a honey stick and piggie
biscuits to munch on...I love the honey stick...And mommy gives me
fresh water in my bottle...She got one (because the old one started to
turn a little green) that has a little yellow duck floating in it to
let mommy know when I am running low...I think she is mean to that
little ducky in the bottle...Poor little ducky, stuck in that bottle
all day... :-(

Hi Incs (my mommy's not looking so I'm using the computer again)...My
mommy is sooooooo silly, anything that has to do with me, she's a
little silly...Next time my bottle starts to turn green I'll wheeek to
her what to do...I don't wanna give up my new ducky bottle...I saw the
package before she threw it out, it's called a Super Pet Flat Bac'
Water Bottle...It's really neat!!!...It holds as much as my old
bottle, but it is flat!!!!...And it has this screwie thingie that
mommy hooks to the cage from the back...My favorite things in the
world is to see those neat little bubbles when I'm drinking, and now I
get to watch the ducky!...Life is s'wheeeeeeek'... :-)

Cocoa :-)

Too funny! Mine won't *touch* strawberries or tomoto. They don't
much care for rolled oats, but will eat a whole oat if offered. They
have never had iceberg lettuce, but I imagine they'd like it.

Their favorite thing in the whole world is their Vitamin C pill. A
very close second is red bell pepper. They like carrots better than
romaine, but I don't give them much carrot. They both like cu***ber -
Gabby prefers it to romaine, but Jojo likes romaine better.

Romaine is always a hit. Gabby grabs the stem end, and Jojo goes for
the leaf end. I love it when Jojo tries to dash across the cage into
his house waving a whole romaine leaf over his head. It always breaks
off, and he arrives empty-mouthed. It takes him a moment to remember
what he was doing.

Such silly little foo foos.

Over the year that we've had him, Charles favorite food have changed! It
started out as green peppers and then moved on to carrots. Now it is
Parsley but seems to be turning into strawberries. He just can't get enough
of them!

Parsely is definitely the #1 choice here!
Also grass in the yard.
Followed by dandilions, collards, and rapini greens.
Treats are carrots, cu***bers, apples and oranges.
They don't seem too fond of berries of any kind, nor
banana which I have heard other pigs love.

Neither of my pigs will touch strawberries. We've tried a few times but
they take no interest at all.

Never tried the other foods on your list.

My pigs like romaine lettuce, carrots, g****s, apple, pear, and whole wheat
bread.

Besides strawberries, they dislike peach and nectarine.

The pig we had in Puerto Rico loved to drink whole milk out of a 4 ounce
human baby bottle. It was amazing... she would take as many bottles as my
daughters cared to feed her. Of course she only drank a few sips at a time.
Our two present pigs will not take milk.

Thanks for the suggestions Jen (and Nate)...I have followed the debate on
iceburg lettuce for a long time and conclude it does no great harm, just that
it is mostly water and contains zero nutritional value (may be good in very hot
weather due to water content and rapid digestion)....however, i always remove
the mid-rib as this contains a sap which may not be ok.....same with tomatoes,
i always remove the seeds for the same reason. My pigsters as with most in
this country live outside and grass makes up most of their diet....the rest is
'extra' It amuses me how they 'snip' a blade of grass at the base and work their
way up the leaf !!

Our 6 1/2 yr old piggie's all time favorites are cu***bers, tomatoes,
celery, red delicious apples & spinach. She has moments when she'll eat
green & red peppers and then turn her nose up at them. She also loves
parsley but don't overdo it then she'll get tired of it. One time we tried a
small banana and she went crazy she raced back and forth in her cage. She
started squealing (like she was scared) and we then took the banana out
figuring she might have a heart attack over this. After we took the banana
out she calmed down. Oh brother!!! Talk about picky eater. She use to eat
raspberries and kiwi when she was little now she won't eat them. She does
love Alfalfa over Timothy Hay. Like the saying goes "You can't teach an old
dog new tricks". Well, our piggie is that way, she is very satisfied with
her favorites and she doesn't want to try anything new.
