Default Guinea Pig Bite

My male guinea pigs have been acting up and fighting the last few weeks.
Actually two out of the three have been the culprits. One minute its
violence and the next minute there buddies again. It a territory and
dominant things after I feed them. The most aggressor must have bitten
one of the baby males, when I was gone. I noticed that he was withdrawn
and quiet this past weekend. And this morning I notice crust around his
eyes. I took them out for some grass tonight, and notice a bite mark on
this side stomach area. He still has his appetite, and is eating, which
is a good thing. I washed the area with a Q tip, and with warm water.
What else can I do to help the healing? He doesn't seem in danger of
dying (I hope), but is sure quiet. Any suggestions? I really don't
want to take him to the vet. I just finished a session of having them
all have shots for Mites. And that really helped them all get over that
problem. These five are a handful, but are fun loving pets. Thanks

may be good idea to remove the baby male for his protection--till he is
a little bigger

Scooter is MUCH bigger than Dillen and Riley---and he is in seperate
cage to protect the little guys

I should mention that the baby male is not a baby anymore. He is 8
month old. His brother is too. The older male is about a year. My
other two GP are females in the other cage/playpen area.

Certainly sounds like a domanance issue to me. Sounds harsh but he probably
had a very bad scare being bitten by the other piggy. For his own safety I
would separate him because it will only cause him more stress etc if the
violence towards him continued and above all wouldn't be fair on the little fella.

Keep the area clean, but watch out that it doesn't get infected and cause an abcess.

You say he seems like he isn't in any danger of dying (you hope) - you sound
unsure? If in any doubt then get a check over from the vet. I know vets
aren't cheap but if he has or gets any infection then it can be treated promptly.

They are great little bundles of fun. I hope it works out ok for your
little man.

then it could be dominance issues....seperate the male one with the
bites on him--for his safety....

Dilly and Riley are boys....they are the same size (no females are
present) and they'll "hump" but not injure each other.,,,,,,

Sounds like an aggressive pigger is buggin' the young male and biting
him

The male GP that got bit, has now developed a couple of cyst type balls
or lumps on the side that he got bite on. I am sure this is might be a
reaction to the bite. Last night he gnawed or bit one of them and it
discard some watery discard. I cleaned him up the best I could.
Thankfully, he did not die overnight. Matter of fact, Cinnamon is alert
and eating healthy. I tried to bring him in to the vet this morning,
but they were too busy. I made an appointment with the clinic that is
in Petsmart stores for next week. In the meantime, I will keep an eye
on Cinnamon, and keep feeding him, like the other four, and care for
him like normal, and hopefully the lumps will go away. Any suggestion
on treatment?

Flush it out with a curved syringe filled with diluted betadine (or generic
povidone iodine). He should also get some a/b's from the vet.

It used to be only death and taxes were inevitable. Now, of course, there's
shipping and handling, too.
