Default HELP ! EVICTION THREATENED !

I have registered online for free at LegalMatch.com to find a good lawyer to
fight this.

I have used LegalMatch before with great results.

Anyways..... Here is my profile at LegalMatch below.

No matches yet because I just applied for this about 1:30am CST online.

Has anybody else went through this ?

Any advice would be greatly appreciated.

Prayers would be very helpful.

Samantha C. in Oklahoma

PROFILE:

Legal assistance needed in:
City: Lexington
County: Cleveland
State: Oklahoma
Zip Code: 73051
Legal categories: Landlord and Tenant
Summary:Eviction threatened because of no pet rule

Case description:

I am 29 and LEGALLY disabled.
I recieve a SSDI check every month for
$348.00.

I have owned and cared for my pet rats for well over 3 months now,in obvious
site of the landlord because their cages are outside, and he has never said
a word before about getting rid of them.

Now he says I have 1 week to get rid of them or I,and/or my husband/m-i-l/2
kids, are evicted.

I consider my pets great therapy and I really love and enjoy them.

They are being taken care of with the utmost care which includes love, great
hygiene,proper cages,and appropriate diet.

Isn't there some sort of disability pet clause that will allow me to keep my
pets ?

I have lived at my residence since December of 2000.

My husband and his mom lived here approximately 2-3 years before I came into
the picture.

My husband and I have a 4 y-o son with Autism and Mental Retardation.

We also have a 21 m-o daughter who seems normal so far.

Default HELP ! EVICTION THREATENED !

Our so called lease , is month to month.
Nothing is in writing.

My husband and his mom lived here about 2-3 years before I came along and I
have been here 5 years.

My understanding, from what I was told, was no inside pets such as cats and
dogs. Understandable, because I used to clean apartments when people moved
out.

Mine are in a cage that contains their poop and pee, unlike cats and dogs,
and they have their own air conditioned building outside. If a heater is
needed, I have that set up too.

They live the high life. Very spoiled.

The landlords live next door and are the in-laws of my husbands aunt.

He has known for over 3 months that I have had the rats, which recieve the
utmost care from me and their vet.

I had one on my shoulder while I was picking tomatoes planted near his
fenceline near his backyard chainlink fence !

He never said a word before.

Rats are pets. They are sold as such at PetSmart/PetsMart and Petco.

I have to sign and fill out paperwork before bringing each one home.

I have saved every do***ent on that part.

I still have time, if he wants me to get rid of them, but I am ready to get
down and dirty and fight in court all the way.

Seriously.

I left a letter on his front porch offering to pay double the rent if he
would let me keep my pet rats. It would go from $250 to $500. I was always
taught "Money talks,BS walks".

No response yet.
No yes's, No no's, so maybe he is considering it unless he plans to hit me
with a court order or something.

I'll just have to move if a court orders me to get rid of them.

Samantha...

If they are living outside it shouldn't be such a big problem. Before you
start court action you should exhaust all possibilty of the softly, softly
approach. Is there a disibility support group there who can give you some
back up with the advantages of keeping pets, or maybe the RSPCA....i know
thats going to be different in the US but its the organisation that cares
for lost or abandoned animals...perhaps they have some literature on rats
as pets that would back up your position..
Goodluck with your campaign.....lets hear it for the rat !!
