Default Teddy

In article, mimz@qwest.net says...
We have a 6 1/2 yr old piggy named Teddy. Don't let the name fool you Teddy
is a female piggy. My daughter named her she wasn't thinking of male/female
names, she named her because Teddy is a Teddy Bear guinea pig. She is very

It is not clear why her teeth need to be 'shaved down'.....is it connected
with only having three teeth?.....certainly it is not necessary unless
there is some specific problem. I hope other group members will respond
to your query because if there is no need to shave the teeth, it is putting
her through a lot of unnecessary distress.

When we got Teddy from a breeder of piggies we were told that piggies need
their teeth shaved when the teeth start curling under. The piggies can't
drink or eat. How we can tell when Teddy's teeth are too long is when we
can't feel her tongue when she tries to lick us. We also noticed that she
doesn't eat too much when her teeth start getting long. We didn't have to
shave her teeth when she was a baby or around 2-3 yrs of age. When she was 5
yrs old we noticed that her teeth started to grow faster and it seemed like
every other month we were running to the vet getting her teeth shaved. The
vet said the teeth grow faster as they get older. I'm not sure why. Maybe
someone can explain this to me.
