Yellow Lab an poodle's
Mike,
Please don't do this, its not in anyone best interest....except your
pocketbook as this would be a purely commercial venture as Labradoodles are
not a 'recognized breed' and in fact, they aren't even able to breed
true(you must always cross Lab with Poodle).
While I can't stop you from doing this, if you are going to go ahead and
seek to produce cross bred puppies, then at the very least, please DO
GENETIC prescreening on the dogs. Labs need OFA hips/elbows and ACVO eyes.
Poodles are FULL of autoimmune issues and other genetic defects- at the
minimum you need OFA hips, ACVO eyes, DNA Vwd and also a SA punch test. You
might also want to do some blood work up on the Poodle are they are very
prone to Addison, Cushings etc. You might as well at the very least have
health, clear parents. Please, I don't believe the line of 'hybrid vigor'
cuz that is a load of bunk and any vet will tell you, mixed bred dogs get
HD, skin problems etc. just as much as any purebred.
PS. You Labradoodles will NOT be non shedding nor safe for people with
allergies either. You have no way to guarantee that the puppies from this
cross will have ALL the coat genes from a Poodle, none.
