Default Foster kids update (Their day at the vet)

Hello everyone,
Nhu asked me to update you on our new boys visit to the vet.
Butterscotch had the best news, nothing really out of order and a good
weight, 4.4 lbs. They all had fleas, which I was surprised because I didn't
see any signs of them (they were all underneath on their bellies). He was
neutered ok.
Pepper had, what I can only describe as a ruptured scrotum, his testicle
was exposed and hanging down and it turned black and dried up. Also he
seemed to favor his left hind leg, but the vet felt it may have been an old
injury and because it really didn't hinder his movements he doesn't want to
do anything at this time. His weight is 5.2 lbs.Well the Dr. was able to
neuter him ok too, everything turned out good.
Well we were shocked at poor Cocoa's condition when Nhu first held him at
the shelter, he was so thin. I told Nhu that I wouldn't be surprised to find
out he had worms. Well we are still waiting for the fecal test results, but
we saw two kinds of worm come out of cocoa since Sat. Wide flat worm (tape)
and small round ones. Ever since we brought him home, he has been eating
non-stop. His weight is 3.2 lbs. He also had a small sore or tumor on his
left hind foot, which the Dr. fixed. If this wasn't enough, the vet looked a
his groin area because when Nhu held him this morning before we took them in
to the vet, she noticed some blood on her shirt. She noticed that it came
from this area. Well what he found not only shocked us but afterwards
brought us to tears. In both his testes he had a Cuterebra (bot) larva. When
the vet showed me I saw one moving through the hole they make to breath
through, I was disgusted. It looked like a huge abscess. This link will show
a picture of the horrible things they removed....

This poor tiny bunny really had a lot thrown at him, but he is the most
sweet and gentle creature I have ever seen. After we brought them home, gave
them their worm medicine, he laid down and stretched out in his cage for the
first time since we brought him home, I think he finally felt relieved of
his discomfort.

Please everyone, say a prayer for these guys that they heal quickly so they
can run around and binky soon!!!!

Thanks
Ed & Nhu

I forgot to mention that Cocoa was neutered ok, but the vet also has to
remove his scrotums due to the damage done by the Cuterebra, he has some
stitches which will be removed in two weeks.

Ouch! Those are late stage Cuterebra. Poor Cocoa. Be sure to feel around

more, but it is good to double check.

I hope everyone is hopping around soon without no troubles at all. Jessie
had a couple of fleas that I couldn't chase down. They stayed on her face.
I used Revolution -- a spot-on treatment -- and the fleas are gone.
Revolution is supposed to be safe for rabbits. It kills fleas, some mites,
and intestinal worms. How it kills things inside, I don't know. It sounds
like something to ask your vet about.

Good job, Ed and Nhu. Take care of yourselves, too Anita

Hello Ed and Nhu,

Oh my gosh, your update made me cry and say bad words!!! I can't believe
someone let those great bunnies get into that condition.

It sounds like you have a terrific vet. I'm glad you've got the bunnies,
especially that special Cocoa, feeling better. That poor little tyke.
All of those bugs in him -- now he'll be able to eat and keep some of
the nutrition for himself.

You two are wonderful, thanks for saving those bunnies.

Will be looking forward to happy updates,

Rhonda
