Yup, I believe most Americans just call it plain old electricity. :-)

Obviously hydro would normally be water related. I presume we've coined the
term because we get so much of our electricity from hydroelectric power.

I remember a number of years ago I was working with a bunch of Americans
from Martin Marietta (now Lockheed Martin) who were up here for a major
project. Since they were going to be here for a while several were looking
to rent houses and were looking for help on the routine.

It was sort of like a "who's on first" conversation. When they asked about
electricity I told them to call Ottawa Hydro and they said "no, I want
electricity, not water" and I would that "that is electricity" and they
would say... It went on for several minutes and ended up being repeated with
3 or 4 people. ;-)

At least they were thankful we didn't *really* live in igloos! :-o
