A couple of weeks ago, we found a couple of botfly warbles on Jessie.
One was bleeding, so we got her to the doctor fast. The doctor was
able to remove one small larva from one of the warbles. He couldn't
find anything in the other warble that was in the inguinal fold.
Where had the evil worm gone?
Two nights ago, we found it when I was flushing the wound. It was
small and it was dead. God was certainly holding little Jessie's paw,
keeping her from going into anaphylectic shock. We flushed repeatedly
and gave her a dose of antibiotic directly into the warble.
The next morning, she had a good bit of swelling. We're keeping her
clean. The capsule for the tiny worm is huge! It holds .25 ml of
flush, even though the worm was small.
This morning the swelling had gone down -- a welcomed relief. I
compared the area on each side of her privates and they seemed about
the same. Then I felt a tiny lump on the side opposite the warble
we've been doctoring. It is a tiny warble. What the $#!+! Our
little girl hasn't been outside at all in two months. Is this a new
one or is it just one that took a bit longer to reach its destination
in her? If it is new, it would have had to come in via her food or
litter -- not likely. It must have just been wandering in her body
for a couple of months.
We are doing all the work on Jessie now. She trusts us, so it is
easier on her. I worry about her all the time -- about stress and
abscesses. Our lady has been through an awful, awful summer. But for
some reason, she has gotten sweeter and sweeter. She has come to
accept doctoring as a thing in her life (that isn't so dreadful since
it is followed by THREE craisins

)
I just hope she gets through this long, wet summer without any
infection.
