Default Last Thumper Update....Vet called after autopsy

It seems Thumper was a "ticking" time-bomb. He had a deformed "connective
tissue"(illium??sp)between his intestines. Doctor claims it was prolly
passed on from his mom or dad...which might explain how we lost the first
thumper. They were brothers. Different litters but same buck/doe.

Doc said there wasn't anything anyone could do. That part of the stomach
had apparently been damaged because of the passage of material through the
deformed area over the course of 10+ months of Thumper's life. It finally
failed completely and actually leaked contents.

He said, "I can't believe he lived that long with it". At least I now know
we didn't do anything wrong.....and we provided Thumper with the best
possible life.

Again, I thank you all for the thoughtful wishes and wish you much "bunny
love" in the future:-)

That was a quick turnaround on the necropsy on Thumper. I hope you and your
family get through this time remembering the wonderful life that was given to
you to enjoy and love, even though he isn't here any more. At least you knew
each other for some amount of time. Carla and Claire.

Yes. Vet PROMISED me that he would stay late and do it. I just got the
call around 9pm. They are a terrific bunch down there. It's actually Dr
Sloat at the animal health clinic in York PA.

He was a very special bunny too. I am sure just like all the bunnies in
here:-)

My 13 year old daughter had the ability to "hypnotise" him. It was so
weird, I've never seen anything like it. She would start to talk to him and
pet/massage him and he would squat in front of her and grind his teeth so
hard you could hear it from 10 feet away!! She would kiss him a million
times during this procedure and he'd just sit there and never move a
whisker:-) Then he would start to lick her face..heheh After she would get
up he'd just keep sitting there like he was in a trance or something. She
could even pick him up..none of us could.

He was the "kissinist" bunny I've ever seen. He would just come up and lick
ya anytime:-) He was very affectionate and loved to cuddle. And boy, did
we do some cuddling:-)

I'm glad Thumper was in our lives...we are a better family because of it.

that ****s! it's so hard when we lose a furry buddy.... Grieve well.... I
know that it hurts.... nothing said can possibly make the hurt go away but
one thing that I realized when 3 of my past bunnies had to cross the
bridge.... 1) know what to look for in a pregnant doe... (this was for my
first dutchie named Brogan)
2) make sure that the techs know what they're doing before entrusting a
bunny who's strength is herculean (my bunny Taz had a spinal subluxation
when a tech didn't hold him properly and in a last desperate attempt, he
kicked out to try and get away) and
3) it's hard to watch the quality of life go downhill of a bunny.... (this
is because Snowflake who was about 9 years old began to have troubles with
moving, seeing and even with the functions of grooming and peeing and
pooping...)
I had to learn from this.... chances are, I'll be learning a whole lot more
with my other buns.... Hang in there.... May Thumper be met by many friendly
animals who have found peace in the pastures of the Rainbow Bridge....

Don, I bet that is a really big relief for you knowing you tried your best but
really there was nothing you could do. I worded that wrong. I hope you know
what I meant by that.

Thank you for letting us know.

I am really, really sorry for your loss.

It does help to know that the poor little guy had no chance--but that's
sad as well.

At least he did have happiness in his brief time here, in your loving
home.

Hello Don,

I'm glad you had the vet do a necropsy. That must give you some relief,
knowing there is nothing more that could have been done. I really
believe in getting as many answers as possible, since unanswered
questions can be a load to bear.

Thumper only had a certain amount of time that he could stay on this
earth, and you gave him the best life. I know he appreciated it, by all
of those kisses he gave you. Maybe he knew that he had to pack a lot of
living into a short time and picked the best family to spend his time with.

I hope you're getting some rest and taking time to grieve. You've just
been through too much.

What a great friend you were with Thumper, staying with him when times
were tough. Take care of yourself now, too.

Rhonda
