Default OT--hamster's better

awhile ago i posted about one of our hamsters that had a dry, cracking, red,
sore-looking rash around all of his legs and on his ears--well, i'm not
recommending anyone do this and a vet visit is probably best, but i'm just
relating what worked on our hamster--my husband applied a mixture of First
Aid Antiseptic Ointment, Zinc Oxide, and "Hot Spots" ( with sulfodene, a
solution that is actually skin medication for dogs ) several times a
day--and the little guy is actually better--the sores are healing nicely,
dried up and scabbing and almost gone--the skin is smooth and pink and
little hairs are growing back--the little guy is running around, chewing up
everything in sight and back to his old self--Whew!!--like i said, i'm not
recommending this in place of a more knowledgeable vet, only relating what
worked in case it could be of help to anyone else

So you still have no idea what caused the problem? Have you changed
litter and whatever disinfectant your husband was using on the cage?

yes, we have changed the bedding to carefresh hoping there are no
re-occurances and have been giving him a little "remedy rescue" to relieve
his stress--and used just soap and water on his cage--but that was after it
seemed to start to heal up, just as precautions--we're watching him
closely--
