Default Rabbit in the bathtub?

I'm really a newbie, so apologies if this is a dumb question...

We are considering getting a house rabbit. We have a room with an
unused fiberglass bathtub in it. I was told (maybe as a joke?) that the
bunny could stay in the tub. To me, the floor is too slick for a bunny
to be happy in there. I guess a cotton rug could fix that.

I'm persuing regular bunny stuff that I see in the pet stores, like a
large exercise pen for daytime and a regular bunny cage for nights. But
the bathtub suggestion is still there. I searched all the faqs I could
find and could find no mention one way or the other, except that
bathtubs can be used to get two bunnies to bond. Nothing about housing
a bunny in there though.

Would a bunny be happy in a fiberglass tub?

Correct, its too small and too slick, some people have no idea how to house a
bunny

For housing ideas take a look at the Housing section on

What do you do when you see an endangered animal eating an endangered plant?

Is there another word for synonym?

Not for a moment.

You'll need to either provide a proper enclosure at floor level, a room
that the rabbit can stay in with a screen door, or a hutch that makes
it easy for the rabbit to get in and out if you're going to let it have
the occasional run of the house.

Only as a TEMPORARY measure.

Ralphable started out in the tub when I brought Him inside with His wounds. He
was only 2 weeks old. By week 5, He was able to jump in and out at will.

Marcy, Lucy, and Winston were also reared in the tub. Twixi (the mother) had
no problem navigating in and out. Later, Robert and Donna also started off in
the tub - but they were a bit slower in picking up the jumping activity: Week
7 is when they could navigate it.

This means that I used the bathtub as a fixed location to replace a nest so
that the rabbits as babies couldn't wander all over, yet give the mother the
freedom she needed during the day when I could let her out.

For the two years that Twixi was isolated from the others (due to her foot
problems and the fact that I didn't have enough enclosures), I don't think she
liked the bathroom. However, the first day that I had her (before giving birth
to L, M, & W), I found her in the medicine cabinet. She had not only jumped up
to the sink, she had actually opened the closed cabinet and jumped onto the
bottom shelf, then almost completely closed the door behind her (open only
about 1").

i doubt it. my daughter had a friend who kept their rabbit in an acquarium
because they had two large dogs.

because it was kept in this environment it was not a very social animal. it
did not like to be held so taking it out for vet visits were not fun.

have you visited the hrs website yet? http://www.rabbit.org for lots of info on
house rabbits.

many of us keep our rabbits in cages with open door access 24/7 i have
three that are not bonded and live in seperate rooms of my home. it works
for me.
