Default Salem at State Fair

We won't go into the details of the awful Showmanship judge, except to
say that it was very good that it was Salem and not Usagi on the show
table, as Usagi would have gotten fed up long before Salem did. Salem
was a good boy. He relaxed on the way down, and relaxed in the show
cage. He actually started peeing and pooping in the cage (although
the first time he peed in his water crock!) and munched on his hay.

He got a blue but was beaten out for Best of Breed and Best Opposite.
Just not finished yet was the judge's verdict. Nice rabbit but less
mature than the rabbits that beat him.

And...in a few months when he's more mature, we've got a tentative hot
date for the big guy. A broken opal doe, a line-breeding situation,
with an owner who knew Salem's breeder and told me she cried her eyes
out when she heard about her death. She was *really* interested in
him and told me that the boy should be campaigning him and getting
some Champion legs on him.

He *does* have nice conformation, and he *is* a pretty boy. And he's
learning to relax and be less stresed in a crowd situation.

We learned some cool show grooming techniques at this show.

First, go over bunny with a pumice brush (used to remove botfly eggs
from horse legs). Watch that fur fly! I couldn't believe how much
fur went flying off a Mini Rex.

Spray lightly with water.

Follow with a lint roller (with removable sheets).

Also, to get urine stains off of light-colored bunnies...use Cowboy
Magic (a horse grooming product). Light spritzes. Wipe off. We
looked at the Cowboy Magic label, and there's nothing nasty there.

Very good. What does "not finished"
mean?

Like, all the characteristics of rabbit
before the dewlap sets in?

No clarification, but my suspicion is that he was referring to Salem's
coat. Still not complete adult coat, although he's got an adult body.
