Default Sick bunny?

My mom's bunny, Mist, is not feeling well. She said he seems to have
trouble making it back to his litter pan to pee. He's dribbling all
over, something that is extremely unusual for him. This is a rabbit
with better toilet habits than most humans! Any ideas? She called
the vet, and her usual is on vacation. The vet she managed to talk to
said that it's because of old age. Mist is 4 yrs old, a mini lop, and
has not had any other health problems, and this came on quite suddenly.
The vet also said that rabbits can't get UTIs or bladder infections.
I'm suspiscous of this though... i'm sure i've heard of buns with
bladder infections before. Am i wrong? I gave mom my vet's name and
number and made her promise to call. Our bunny vet is fantastic, and
even when he's not available his backup is also very bunny capable.

Mom said that other than this Mist is his normal self. Eating, pooping,
hopping and begging for nose scritches as always. Only symptom right
now is the strange litter habits. (He's been neutered since he was six
months)

A bladder/urinary tract and/or stones may very well be the problem. If it's
stones the only way to fix that is surgery.

I hope bun gets to the vet mon - there's nothing you can do now.

You may see blood tho

I agree with you and am glad you made your mom promise to call your vet.

Rabbits can indeed get urinary tract infections, bladder stones, kidney
stones, etc., and that is frequently the reason they pee outside the
box.

I hope your vet can help Mist. Four is not at all old for a rabbit.

Eight is a senior bun. Some live to 12 and beyond, with good care.

Good luck!

Nona
