Greetings Group - We had a sad situation Friday nite - our beloved teddy
"Shredder" drew her last breath in my lap. She was losing her hair, and
mostly sleeping. Her last meal was some egg - and we cleaned her cage for
her. Today we will lay her to rest in our back yard.

However, the 12-yo DD wants another one, so we were wondering how we should
prep the cage for a new arrival. Baking soda and lots of hot water?

So sorry to hear about Shredder... I'm sure she had a great life and was
clearly well-loved.

You can clean the cage with a mild disinfectant, and hot water, then rinse
thoroughly. Any dried on pee stains can be soaked off with some diluted
vinegar (hamster pee is slightly alkaline) and rinsed again. However, to be
sure, I'd leave it to stand for a week or so after cleaning.
