Default Rat maze

I had a thought the other day,

I wonder if you can get clear PVC pipe, that way you could make a maze out
of it, and just unconnect it to rearrange things to keep them interested.

with pvc pipe you could make a variety of mazez or even a cage, it would be
large enough for rats to move around in easily.

if it was clear it would be perfect to observe it.

anybody seen clear pvc pipe?

I've never seen clear pvc pipe but my parents had setup a hole maze kind
of thing with the white pvc, elbows, Ts, connectors... Their rats at the
time were scared of coming out of their cage but truly enjoyed their
pipe run which would end up bringing them all the way into the living
room. They would pop their heads out of the top openings so we knew just
about where they were. There are also tubes made by Superpet, big like
pvc pipe and clear, but costly.

I've looked for clear plastic piping (in the UK). End result: nothing
generally available at a reasonable cost. There are sources but they're
/very very/ expensive - I forget how expensive, only that they made it
out of the question for me.

If anyone has an affordable source I'd love to hear too. I wanted to set
up a couple or more cages, maybe in different rooms & interconnect them
with the piping at near ceiling level.

In alt.pets.rodents.rats, Mad-Biker belched forth and ejected the
following:

Like this, you mean?

I've got some in my rats' cage. They come in different shapes and sizes
and you can change the layout of them as they have connecting rings.

Cheap, they ain't though...

Regular domestic PVC drain pipe seems to be a lot cheaper, but you're
committed to buying a very long length, and it's usually grey or black
(not clear).

One thing we find very good is a cheap (couple of quid) plastic planter
from a garden centre. Cut rat sized holes in the ends, and put it in the
cage inverted, and they love it (really cosy hiding and nesting place):
Plus, if you need your rats in a hurry, it'll just lift straight up to
expose the (now bewildered) little beasties.

This kind of pipe would be great, but the wider diameter is really
expensive, if anyone could find similar at realistic prices? (or win the
lottery)
