Well, we had to put our little guy down a few weeks ago. He has had
respiratory problems for a while now, and we've had him on medication,
and we found a really good vet here in Florida when we moved, but
despite all the work and TLC he was being given, the medicine quit
working. He lost over 40 grams, and was 295 grams when we had to have
him put to sleep (~10 oz). He could hardly breathe, and his
extremeties were getting bluish. All in all, not good. So I took him
to the vet, and before I even told her our decision, she asked me if
we considered euthanization. So, I went back, picked up my wife, and
we stayed with him through the whole thing. I've never had to go
through that, and it's really hard. My wife said that it may be a long
time before we get another one, because this is the 9th one she's had
that she's had to have put to sleep. 3 years is just too short a time
to say hello, get to really know your rat(s) as a friend and
companion, and then have to say goodbye. We will have another one(s)

eventually, but I think for now we're just going to settle on a dog

.
R.I.P. Lemmi, you'll be missed.
