RIP Hamtaro 5/7/02-3/16/05
It is with heavy heart that I write of Hamtaro's passing. He was born
to Momo, a hamster bailed out of the local shelter. This little family
is what started my days of hamster rescue. I had been doing general
rescue work scouting the shelters for different breed rescues for about
2 years when Momo came to the shelter. She came in pregnant because
the owners didn't want her. I tried hard to find her a rescue to take
her but was unsuccessful as they were all full. I took her in as they
told me that they were going to put her down that day before she had
the babies. She was about ready to pop! I got her in a transport
carrier and took her home. As I was getting her cage ready she went
and had her babies! It took me longer than usual to get her into her
cage as I hadn't been planning on bringing her home with me. Well, she
was a great mom and raised her babies well. I kept her and Melon (one
of her daughters). Duncan, a male went to Jane Landis, and Hamtaro
went to one of my aunts.
Unfortunately my aunt couldn't bear watching him get older and
eventually die, so he came to live with us a little over a year ago.
He was a very mellow boy who hardly ran in his wheel. He was just
content with toddling around in his cage and sniffing things here and
there. The past several months his kidneys had started getting bigger,
but with his age, I decided that aggressive treatment probably wasn't
in his best interest. He wasn't in any pain and would eat his treats
with relish, so I just wanted him to enjoy his last days.
He passed away shortly before his 3rd birthday. I found him in his
bed, a bit stretched out as if he'd woken up, stretched, and then just
went off on a stroll to the Bridge.
I'm sure he's having fun catching up with his mom and siblings up
there.

I should be updating that page in the next day or so. I will post when
I do.
