Default Are there some old timers still around?

I haven't been reading this NG for almost 2 years. Does Nancy DeMarco
still lurk around?

The past year has been difficult. I lost my 16 yo golden retriever, who
loved my guinea pigs very much. The day before I put her down, my
oldest pig, Taco, took seriously ill herself. I nursed her through 10
weeks of GI stasis, then she was diagnosed with a bladder stone the size
of her bladder. She shortly turned septic and I relieved her of misery
she didn't have a chance of escaping in this world. My dog used to
greet every pig in the morning by touching noses with them. My dog vet
and my guinea pig vet both thought Taco died of a broken heart after
Daisy. It took the rest of the herd over 6 months before they started
to talk freely again.

My oldest male pig, Lola, is now 50% blind, but he is still fat and
happy at age 6. My pig, Tamale, is now almost 6 and she has a benign
tumor on her side (a follicuoma). She is still pretty lively.

My two youngest pigs are doing well. And they are not that young
anymore at ages 3 and 4, but they are still healthy.

Hi,

I guess I'm an "old timer" !? I've been on this newsgroup for 4 years.

Sorry to hear about Daisy and Taco. Sounds like you had some long and
worrisome nights.

Good to hear from you.

Yep, I remember you & Heretic. I hung around a lot from 1994 to 2003,
then I had to give up my Internet habit for awhile.

I remember Esther as well, and Elise Butler.

Well....i have been around long enough to remember 'jmouse'..from
memory he drove a ford cortina and lived in melbourne (aust),
neither of which inspired me much...however if he is lurking would
like to hear from again. Nancy deMarco used to be very active in
this group and was very knowledgable about all things piggy...a
wonderful source of information and advise.

Yes, I remember jmouse - didn't someone spoof his page?

Sadly, as members of herd die, I'm not replacing them. My allergy
doctor told me to get rid of them, but I love the little guys. It's
easier to just let nature take its course. The observation of the vet
was that my pigs seem to live a long time, so I still have awhile.

Thanks for writing, I remember you and as names are mentioned my mind
starts to function.

I've noticed that the number of posts has certainly decreased. I'll try
to pitch in when I can.

Dear "someone",

I'm so sorry to read about your losses. It's hard to find the words to
help with the pain. I'm sending you and your pigs my best thoughts
during this hard time.

I don't know how the others do it. This wonderful group managed to
find words when I was devestated with the loss of my Snow and then
Lola's illness and then death. I don't know what I would have done...

I would have sent my condolences sooner but I haven't been on the forum
lately...

All my best,
Elisa and Daisy and Gerbil-boi

Default Old timers still around? (Long! ;-)

Hello dear group,

I was quite happy to see the "Any old timers out there" thread...I
clicked on it and of course saw the sad news from "someone"...

I thought it best to write a separate email.

I'm still around, BUT the new google forum messed me up. It was hard
to navigate and I barely recognized anyone. Also, when I
stumble upon one of the really horrible emails, I just get too upset.

So hi to "someone", Kelvyn, Mira and Esther! Nice to read you all.

If would be nice to hear from our mysterious jmouse...I actually got
a few direct emails from him "back in the olden days".
I remember asking him if he was a vet because he was so
knowledgeable. He said he wasn't....

We were all so sad when he left the "herd" ;-)

I had the gp forum web site as my main page for all these years...just
up
until a few months ago. The last time I came to visit was when Kelvyn
put up his blog site. I don't use newsgroups, I use :
http://groups-beta.google.com/group/...nea-pigs?hl=en

I hope you all get this, but I just don't see how you'll see it unless
you go all the way down to the new message under this topic...hmmm,
what
to do? ;-)

Daisy is fine. She'll be 4 in November. She's still blind and very
spoiled. It's very cool that she can tell time ;-) She gets that
expensive mesclun baby lettuce mix at exactly 8:00 pm! And if not,
she'll really squeek! She still has terrible wet butt...I keep it
trimmed and do a "Volume Tendress" shampoo when needed...love this
French Guinea Pig Shampoo!

I spoke with her sitter, she'd love to take her again this summer. I
am so lucky!

I hate leaving Daisy. I am just crazy about her and she makes me
laugh. I enjoy her company so much. Shame on the airline for not
letting
her come with me.

She did lose a bit of weight last summer...most likely
heat/depression/different feeding schedule...
I'm having the sitter and her daughter come over on Sunday for
coffee and brownies. I'm going to ask Catherine, the sitter, to maybe
treat Daisy differently than her herd...

Don't get her wrong. She is one fantastic pig mom...she's got some
beautiful animals...the thing is that they know they are spoiled pigs,
and Daisy knows she is a spoiled human....;-)

Off I go dear group, I have an email if anyone wants to say hi off
list, just in case, that's butler2146@voila.fr - take out the 46.

My "real" email got totally swamped last year and I had to spend a
bunch of time getting rid of spam...I think Kelvyn has my real one and
so do a few others here...

I'd love to jump in again with my posts...

Anyhow, lots of kisses to the pigs and other pets,

All my best,

Elisa, Daisy and Gerbil-boi (who is almost 2!!! That's getting old for
a gerbil!)

Hey there Elisa!....good to see you post here.
I was interested and curious to read about Daisy and how she
squeeks if she don't get that 8pm special (mesclun baby
lettuce)...is there something you do by habit at 8pm..ie: turn the
TV on, something that gives her a clue ???
Once again, great to hear from you...
Best wishes from a 'land downunder'.... and far away.
kelvyn.
