What treats do you give your bunnies on a regular basis? I used to be quite
boring with my rabbits and just give them there Supa rabbit excel there hay
and a carrot or two. I have tried Toffee on banana which he seemed ok with
but not overly joyed with but what else is safe to give rabbits as a daily
snack or supplement? and is there anything you can put in there water to
liven that up?

*Toffee* as in candy toffee????
Treats aren’t something they should have on a *regular* basis.. treats are
once in awhile things and the frequency depends on what it is. Sugary
anything is mostly a no-no. Mine seems to consider herbs to be great
*treats* even though to me a *treat* is something extra special and usually
not good for you.. or bunny. When he gets his romaine leaf every day, I use
it as a “plate” and put a sprig of mint, basil, and/or thyme from my garden
on it and he goes for those first. Once or twice a week he might get a very
small slice of apple or banana but that depends on if I have even bought any
that particular week. Once in an even lesser while, and we’re talking once a
month or less, he gets a cheerio or two. Sometimes I give him a tiny slice
of carrot but those are also less than once a week things. He has one of
those almost hard as a rock veggie wheels he likes to chew on (like the salt
lick wheels only it’s not salt) and sometimes he even gets a tiny piece off
to eat… it’s good for his teeth and he seems to have fun trying to get
bits off of it but he doesn’t mess with it very often.
Water just needs to be…. *water*.. unless they are not drinking and you
need to tempt them a little bit.

When she says “toffee on banana”, she means, her rabbit is called toffee and
she tried to give him some banana, not that she fed him banana toffee :o)

A 6 lb. bun should get at least 2 cups of greens a day!

My buns get their body volume size in freshed washed herbs and greens
and such twice a day. I don’t consider those treats but I do try to get
as many different kinds of herbs as I can. They particularly like fresh
mint. They also like getting handfuls of graden weeds from between my
tomto plants which includes about half grass. (I hate weeding so I only
weed what the bunnies eat.)

Judith … how do you know which weeds are safe for the bunnies? I don’t even know the names of some
of my weeds to try to look them up.

There are weeds out there that have probably not even been named yet. I
worry a lot about them being poisonous. Toofer was real good at avoiding
plants that aren’t good to eat. Jessie doesn’t have that talent. I have to
steer her away from oak and wisteria every day.
I have found many things outside that they enjoy and are not toxic. The
weeds, I don’t know.
I have looked at the poisonous plant lists. There is a problem with them.
For most plants they don’t list what part is poisonous or at what age. They
also don’t list how much is toxic. This is important information. Young
leaves can be good to eat, but build up toxic things as they get older
(e.g., red maple). Or a fruit may be good to eat, but the seed be poisonous
(e.g., apple). Some things may be very healthy in small amounts and toxic
in large amounts (e.g., kale).
What’s a bunny slave to do?

even know the names of some

Thanks Judith … Very good suggestions. I didn’t know how to even go about finding out about my
weeds … now I feel I have a way to start learning about them … Thanks again, it’s surely

Gee Nona, Tuffy considers that stuff food…not treats !!!! Janice
Nona 2011-12-25 00:32:29
I try, Janice, I try.
But I have to admit my two stinkers are coaxing (blackmailing) more and
more treats out of me lately.
Their technique is basically the I-turn-my-tail-on-you routine until I

How cute!! Wendy & Cartman have taken to mowing me over when they want their
treat. They are like little begging dogs. I fact I call them my little
